Hollow Ponds is looking for a full-time Junior Programmer to work in our London studio from this August, on games made in Unreal Engine.

We are a small team (our previous games have had 2-3 programmers), so this role will involve working across a wide range of programming activities: from gameplay systems to UI to audio to systems like saving/loading and settings... as well as discussions with the team on Slack, where we figure out what to work on next as we go along.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate their proficiency in a high level language of their choice: C# / C++ / Actionscript / Javascript / Java would all be suitable. Our games are made with Unreal Engine, using Unreal's 'decorated' C++, but we do not expect candidates to have experience in this: the role will involve hands-on mentoring to help with learning about how Unreal Engine works, and to help them find their way around the existing codebase.

Candidates should have a portfolio of interactive works which demonstrate an understanding of game feel and visual literacy - these could be 'games' or 'toys'. Our interview process would ideally be based around playing these things, talking about them, and looking at the code behind them.

We have a studio in North London, where successful candidates should be able to travel every day for at least an initial training period. We're a distributed team - the majority of people do not work in our studio, but this junior role will require a significant amount of in-person mentorship. Once we're up and running, we can be a lot more flexible about working from home.

We work with a diverse set of collaborators, and folks from under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

- Salary - £30,000
- 28 days holiday inclusive of bank and public holidays.
- We are committed to a sustainable work-life balance, and we never crunch.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.

Deadline - 26th July 2021
